The Name
SOLURU

SOLURU is not a word you will find in any dictionary. It is older than dictionaries. It lives in the space between dusk and dark, in the exhale of the earth after a long warm day, in the way fabric feels when it wraps around you and asks nothing in return.

Solani
"the warmth that lingers after the sun drops"
The feeling of a hillside still holding the day's heat long after the sun has disappeared. East African earth after a long afternoon. The warmth that has nowhere to go, so it stays.
Thururi
"the soft cosy hum of a fire breathing its last warmth"
The sound a fire makes in its final hour. Not a crackle. Not a roar. A soft, low breathing. The hum of something that has given everything and is resting now. Still warm. Still here.

Soluru. Say it softly. Feel it settle. It is the space between Solani and Thururi, between the warmth that lingers and the fire that hums. That space is where SOLURU lives.

SOLURU
Nairobi, Kenya · Est. 2024 I

Somewhere in Kenya, as the sun drops behind the hills —

The fire is low. The fabric is loose. The earth is still warm beneath bare feet. That moment is SOLURU. We are a brand born from the belief that clothing should feel like that moment: free, warm, unhurried.

Each piece is made with intention, rooted in the bold soul of African heritage, and cut to move with the body rather than contain it. We do not make fast fashion. We make slow warmth. Pieces that carry history in their fibres, stories in their prints, and freedom in every loose, flowing hem.

"Worn once by the earth.
Now yours to carry forward."

The Fabrics

SOLURU speaks through three forms of fabric, each one an expression of the same soul. Every bolt carries a history before it reaches our hands.

Fabric I
Kitenge & Kanga

East African classics. Bold prints, deep colours, rooted in daily life across the continent. Kitenge is bold and structured. Kanga carries Swahili proverbs along its borders, language woven into cloth.

Fabric II
Tie Dye & Batik

Both are process-driven fabrics where the result cannot be fully controlled. Tie dye is unpredictable in pattern. Batik carries the crackle of wax. These are near-singular pieces, even when the technique is repeated.

Fabric III
Ashoke

Yoruba strip-woven prestige fabric. Woven in narrow strips and stitched together, Ashoke is labour-intensive before it ever reaches our hands. It carries cultural weight and earns its price completely.

Fabric IV
One of a Kind

Some SOLURU pieces come from Gikomba, Maziwa, Jericho and Eastleigh. Fabrics that would otherwise be discarded. Given new life. These pieces carry something extra. They have already lived once. Now they live again.

The Four
Pillars

Every piece we make stands on four commitments. These are not marketing words. They are the structure of how SOLURU thinks, cuts, sews, and sends.

01
WARMTH

Every SOLURU piece is made to carry the feeling of East African dusk that lingering heat after the sun drops. Clothing that holds you like the earth still holds the day.

"Not heat. Warmth. There is a difference."

02
MEMORY

The prints we work with carry history older than any trend. Each fabric remembers the hands that wove it, the culture that named it, the lives lived before it reached ours.

"The print remembers. The wearer is free."

03
REBIRTH

Most SOLURU pieces begin as discarded fabric from Nairobi’s markets. Everything is given a second story.

"Worn once by the earth. Now yours."

04
FREEDOM

Our cuts are loose, flowing, generous. We design for the body to move freely, to breathe, to feel unhurried. SOLURU is not fashion that contains. It releases.

"Loose threads. Deep roots."

The Maker

Hand-made
with intention

SOLURU is made by hand in Nairobi. Every cut, every seam, every finished edge passes through the same careful attention. The process is slow because slow is the only way to make something worthy of being worn.

"We do not make fast fashion.
We make slow warmth."

From the markets of Nairobi to the streets of New York, Paris, and London — SOLURU wraps the world in the warmth of an East African dusk.

Things people
ask us.

Browse the Pieces section and click Enquire, or message us directly on WhatsApp or email. Every piece is one of a kind. Once you see something that feels like yours, reach out before it finds someone else.

Yes. Our cuts are generous by design: loose, flowing, free. If you need a specific length or adjustment, let us know when you enquire. We work with your body, not against it.

Hand wash gently in cold water with mild soap. Lay flat to dry in the shade — sunlight can fade the prints over time. Do not tumble dry or iron directly on the print. These fabrics have lived before. Treat them like something you love.

We are based in Nairobi, Kenya. Collection is available by arrangement. Reach us on WhatsApp or email and we will sort out how your piece reaches you.

Both. Some SOLURU pieces are upcycled, sourced from Gikomba, Maziwa, Jericho and Eastleigh. Others are made from carefully selected new African print fabrics. Every piece, regardless of origin, is made with the same intention and care.

We do. If you are a boutique or concept store whose values align with ours, we would love to talk. Reach us at info@soluru.africa with a note about who you are and where you are based.
